My brother is buying a Grand marquis in about an hour. We test drove it and the rear end is pretty lose. It doesn’t bounce up and down or feel unstable. I just want to make sure that it feeling like a boat is normal. Also the torque is impressive. You can hit 90 in no time and the car doesn’t feel like its even trying.

Hard to say from here. It will feel kinda boat-like, but there is such a thing as too much...
One thing that I do I want to encourage you to do is, take a look at the frame behind the RF wheel, by the control arm mount. Make sure that it’s not too terribly rotten underneath where the AC drips.

The undercarriage and suspension is rust free so we’re good with that. There are about 3 paint prepped rust spots on the upper body and thats it.

Sounds like it’s in pretty decent shape.
GMs had air suspension, didn’t they? Or was that just a Town Car thing?

The Town Car had it standard, it was optional on certain years of the Grand Marquis.

I had an ‘09 GrandMa for several years, that sounds like a pretty normal feeling.

The air suspension definitely feels like it sways side to side, but you’re good. That’s normal.

This made me laugh. I think the only car I can think of that screams boat more than these is an 80s era Caprice.
